Choose a thumbnail

Capture a frame or choose a library image for a video’s first impression.

On this page

Choose the video to update

Open a ready video and click Choose thumbnail. Or open Create → Thumbnails and select the ready video under Video to update. The selected video loads into the editor.

A thumbnail is an image shown before playback. Changing it does not change the video’s content, ID or existing embed links.

Capture a video frame

  1. Choose the moment

Pause the source and move Choose a frame, or click Show suggested frames. The six suggestions sample the video; click one to select it and check the larger preview.
  2. Style the image

Choose a crop and position your subject. Set size, optional captions and Creation name. Thumbnail sizes are 640, 1280 or 1920px on the longest edge, without upscaling.
  3. Export or apply it

Click Create thumbnail, then Download for a PNG. When hosting is available, Save & use thumbnailprepares the hosted copy and applies it to the selected video once ready.

Use an existing library image

  1. Select the target video first

Choose the video under Video to update.
  2. Choose a ready image

Under Start with your library, select the image you want to use. Click Use this library image.
  3. Check your video

Wait for the confirmation message, then open the video to see its selected thumbnail. Existing library-image selection works even when hosting new creations is unavailable.

Verify or reset your selection

The selected thumbnail appears in library cards, dashboard players and public embeds. Reload the video page or your published embed to check the result. Selected images follow your account’s playback-domain restrictions.

To restore the automatically generated poster, select the video and click Reset to automatic. Re-encoding the video preserves your selection. If a selected image becomes unavailable, playback can fall back to the automatic poster.
