Switching from Vimeo
Bring your Vimeo library. Keep your embeds.
Connect Vimeo, tick your videos, and we copy them over for you: titles, captions and custom thumbnails included. Then one find-and-replace switches every player on your site. Nothing to download, nothing to upload again.
Grow past 2 TB a month without a sales call
Vimeo’s self-serve plans are good value while your viewers stay under 2 TB a month: that is the limit on every one of them. Past it, Vimeo asks you to lower your bandwidth, or talk to its sales team about a bigger plan. Our Scale plan includes 20 TB, and past any plan’s allowance you simply pay $3.00/TB from your wallet.
| Viewing a month | Vimeo | Lanternaut |
|---|---|---|
| 1 TB | From $12 a month, billed annually ($20 monthly) | $12 a month · Hobby, includes 1.5 TB |
| 2 TB | From $12 a month, billed annually ($20 monthly) | $39 a month · Creator, includes 5 TB |
| 5 TB | Past the self-serve limit: Enterprise, priced by Vimeo’s sales team | $39 a month · Creator, includes 5 TB |
| 10 TB | Past the self-serve limit: Enterprise, priced by Vimeo’s sales team | $79 a month · Pro, includes 12 TB |
| 20 TB | Past the self-serve limit: Enterprise, priced by Vimeo’s sales team | $149 a month · Scale, includes 20 TB |
Vimeo’s plans and limit as published on vimeo.com/pricing on 14 October 2026. Ours are our live prices, billed monthly, from $5 a month. On any plan, viewing past its allowance can be paid from the wallet at $3.00/TB instead of moving up. Each plan also includes storage and encoding (see pricing); Vimeo’s plans include more storage.
How the move works
Connect Vimeo and tick your videos
Connect your Vimeo account on the Import page with a key you make in Vimeo (about two minutes, every step shown), then choose what to bring, a page at a time or all at once. We only read your Vimeo account; nothing there changes.
We copy them over
Each video comes straight from Vimeo into your storage (the original file if Vimeo kept it, otherwise Vimeo’s best copy), with its title, its captions and its custom thumbnail, then encodes for adaptive playback. You watch it happen in a list.
Swap your embeds in one go
Find
player.vimeo.com/video/and replace it with your own address,media.lanternaut.com/vimeo/…/, shown on the Import page, across your site. Every player now shows the same video from Lanternaut, with its autoplay, loop, background, colour, title and start-time settings. A list of old and new links is there too.
Encoding what you bring is on us
Your first Vimeo import adds a month of your plan’s encoding minutes, free, to use within 90 days. It pays for each imported video’s first encode before your plan’s own minutes, and comes back if an encode fails.
Good to know
- What do I need on Vimeo?
- A Vimeo Standard, Advanced or Enterprise account: Vimeo gives file access only on those plans. You make a key in your Vimeo account (about two minutes; our Import page shows every step) and paste it in. On Vimeo Free or Starter, upload your videos from your own copies instead.
- What comes over, and what doesn’t?
- Each video’s file, title, one captions track (the one Vimeo shows by default) and its custom thumbnail. Descriptions, folders, chapters, comments and Vimeo’s interactive tools stay on Vimeo. Your Vimeo account itself is never changed.
- Can I keep videos private to my site?
- Yes: list the sites your videos may play on in Settings, and they play nowhere else. Password-protected videos are not offered yet.
- Do my old embeds need to change at all?
- Only the one find-and-replace. Pages that paste a plain vimeo.com address rather than a player, or that control Vimeo’s player with their own code, need the new embed code from each video’s page.
